AI Sprite Sheet Generator

Describe a character, request a frame grid, then review, slice and pack the result as PNG + JSON atlas.

free local tools · BYO Gemini key · Google API charges may apply

Generate sends your prompt and key directly from this browser to Google. Save keeps the key in this browser's localStorage; Forget removes it. Imported frame files are processed locally.

  1. Create or select a key in Google AI Studio.
  2. Check billing and available image-generation quota for its project. Review Google's API pricing; the free local tool does not make API usage free.
  3. Enter the key, describe your character below, choose a grid and select Generate frames. The model is gemini-nano-banana-2.1.

Generation help: 429: check the project's quota, billing and any retry delay before trying again. 403: check key restrictions, project access and model availability. No image: review the returned message and simplify the prompt; another attempt may incur charges.

What this generator is good at

Going from one idea to a frame set you can actually test is the slowest step of game art. This tool compresses it into one prompt: the model outputs a grid of poses, the browser removes the key background and slices the frames, and you download a packed sheet with an atlas. For prototypes, game jams and placeholder art, that is often all you need.

What it is not good at

Frame-perfect consistency. Image models can change the character's scale or details between cells, and grid alignment can drift. Inspect the frames before export and clean up or redraw them as needed. Further generation attempts may incur Google API charges.

The pipeline, step by step

  1. Prompt. Your browser sends your description, grid instructions and API key directly to Google's gemini-nano-banana-2.1 model.
  2. Key out. The browser attempts to remove the magenta background. Similar colors in the art may be removed, and edges may need cleanup.
  3. Slice. The grid is cut into individual frames at exact cell boundaries.
  4. Pack. Frames are shelf-packed with your spacing and extrusion settings; download the PNG and the TexturePacker-style JSON atlas.

Try the PNG and JSON in the Phaser playback example to check frame order and animation before importing into your project.
